Collection of Sketches by Jean-Pierre Martinez
The Rebels is a collection of ten sketches that trace, in negative, the story of a group of former friends — once bound together by music, now scattered by life. Around a central trio — Fred, Max, and Vincent — revolve several other characters (Cecilia, Alice, Tom…), who were in turn companions on the road, in friendship, in love, or just in passing.
The opening piece (Emergency Exit) sets the tone: a skewed quest, a comic misunderstanding about the entrance and exit of a concert… by the band The Rebels. Through the following sketches, we witness the group’s disintegration, the scattering of its members, their disillusionments, intimate cracks, and reunions — sometimes painful, sometimes tender, often tinged with melancholy.
The final scenes — culminating in the allegorical Epilogue of the Maze — bring this trajectory full circle with a bittersweet realisation: failure does not lie in not becoming a star, but in forgetting the dreams once shared and the ability to laugh together.
