No Sense off Limits, a Collection of Sketches by Jean-Pierre Martinez
This collection brings together around thirty short, absurd sketches written for two characters, often unnamed, in everyday situations that tip into nonsense, irony and light philosophical reflection. Through offbeat dialogue, wordplay and playful twists on familiar clichés, the author offers a gallery of comic, metaphysical and satirical scenes in which reality is always slightly askew.
The settings are often minimalist: a café terrace, a bench, a road, an airport terminal… The characters themselves could be anyone – ordinary men and women – yet they become thinking beings caught in absurd situations, revealing both the strangeness of the world and the absurdity of our linguistic and social reflexes.
Through these sketches, the collection explores in turn:
– The paradoxes of language and the difficulty of communication,
– The search for meaning in a world that does not always provide any,
– Theatre within theatre, through comic forms of self-reference,
– And a form of existential poetry, never without humour.
